Bluesky Raises Video Upload Limit to 10 Minutes, With Files Up to 300MB
Social network Bluesky said on Tuesday that it is raising its video upload limit to 10 minutes, up from three minutes, while increasing the maximum file size to 300MB and saying upload speed is now two to three times faster. The new limit matches the 10-minute cap TikTok offers for videos recorded directly in the app, and extends to other apps built on the AT Protocol that underpins Bluesky.

Longer videos, larger files
Bluesky had previously allowed three-minute videos, a limit it raised last year. Alongside the longer length, users can now upload a maximum file size of 300MB, and upload speed is two to three times faster.
The new limit is on par with TikTok’s 10-minute cap for videos recorded directly with the app. It also means other apps running on the AT Protocol, including Bluescreen, Reelo and Skylight, will be able to serve longer videos.
A crowded video race
Social platforms have pushed hard to become more video-friendly. Meta-owned rival Threads allows five-minute videos. On X, free users can upload 140-second videos, while paying users can upload three- to four-hour videos up to 16GB, and the company launched a new video editor to encourage original uploads.
Bluesky’s active user base dropped by over 25% year over year as of July, according to data from Similarweb. The move to extend video length is part of the platform’s effort to compete on video and hold onto users.
